As a percussion duo, our personal expertise falls most heavily within the area of percussion ensemble performance and, inevitably, this is the general theme we propose our session would explore. What can we all do to become even better percussion ensemble players? ‘Working as one! - the musical and organisational challenges facing the ensemble percussionist’ examines the following: What makes a good percussion ensemble? How can we achieve higher levels of musicality? What are the unique organisational challenges of working in a percussion ensemble? What are the many obstacles in setting up a percussion ensemble and how can we get round them? What can be done to find a unique voice and style?
We hope to answer all of these in an engaging and accessible way, through discussion, performance of some short excerpts from our repertoire as illustration, and a Q&A session if time permits.
